El día comenzó desayunando en mi antiguo barrio de Sunnyside, en Queens. Entré en el Aubergine Café de la Calle 50 para pedir un “scone” de árandanos y un café con leche. Tras comer, me encontré con mi madre en Manhattan y nos dirigimos al Bowery para visitar el New Museum. El museo tenía su exhibición "Trienio" que se llamaba The Ungovernables." (Los no gobernables). Entre mis obras favoritas estuvo una escultura de Mariana Tellería con el título "Días en que todo es verdad". Consistía en varios objetos comunes posicionados y desconstruidos de una manera que eran como un poema visual.

The day began with breakfast in my old neighborhood of Sunnyside, Queens. I stopped into the Aubergine Café on 50th Street to have a cranberry scone and a latte. After I had eaten, I met my mother and we headed down to the Bowery to visit the New Museum. The museum was showing its Triennial Exhibit entitled The Ungovernables." Among my favorite pieces was a sculpture by Mariana Tellería entitled "Días en que todo es verdad," which consisted of various common objects which had been positioned and taken apart in ways that almost suggested a visual poem

Cuando salimos del museo, eran la una de la tarde y teníamos hambre. En principio íbamos a ir a China Town para comer dim sum, pero teníamos ganas de una ensalada. Así que en una suerte media inspirada llegamos al Café Gitane en la Calle Mott. El sitio tenía un exterior chulo pintado de un azul brillante con mesas y sombrillas en la terraza. Nosotras comimos dentro en una mesita redonda cerca de la ventana y pedimos la ensalada de humus con pan de pita.

By the time we had finished at the museum, it was 1pm and we were feeling hungry. The original plan had been to head down to Chinatown and find a place for dim sum, but we were more in the mood for a salad. And, in a sort of inspired luck we came upon the Café Gitane on Mott Street. The place had a cute blue painted exterior and several tables out front with umbrellas to shade diners from the sun. We went inside to a small round table by the window and enjoyed the hummus salad with warm pita bread.

De allí fuimos hacía el norte y Chelsea para sentir un poco de calma dentro de la ciudad, andando por el Chelsea High Line. Es un parque público que construyeron en la antigua vía de un tren elevado y tiene unas vistas preciosas de la ciudad junto con obras de arte.

From there we headed uptown to Chelsea to enjoy a bit of calm within the city by walking the Chelsea High Line. This is an old elevated train track which has since been converted into a public park with works of art along the way, and lots of beautiful views of the city.

Paramos para echar un vistazo en el Chelsea Market, una antigua fábrica de galletas que hoy en día es un espacio con muchas tiendas y restaurantes. ¿De dónde viene su fama? ¡En 1912 la primera galleta Oreo fue horneada allí! El edificio es bastante interesante y fue renovado en 1998. Muchas de las tiendas ofrecían muestras (nosotras probamos un bocado de brownie delicioso en una de las pastelerías). Y después de pasar por el edificio subimos de nuevo al High Line para continuar el camino hacia el norte.

We stopped to peek in the Chelsea Market, a former cookie factory which has been converted into a space with lots of shops and food places. Its claim to fame? In 1912 the first Oreo cookie was baked here! The building is really neat, having been rennovated in 1998, and a lot of the little shops gave samples (we tried a delicious bite of brownie in one bakery!) And, after passing through the building, we climbed back up to the High Line and continued walking North.

En la Calle 27 bajamos del High Line para entrar en la Galería Ceres, de donde mi madre es miembro, para ver la exhibición actual. Me gustó bastante las fotos que tenía este mes, y también charlamos un rato con la dueña de la galería (ella nos ayudó con la recomendación de una cafetería cercana para tomar un café antes de volver al Port Authority.)

At 27th street we stopped into the Ceres gallery, where my mother is a member, to see the current show. I enjoyed the photography that they had on view, and we got to chat with the gallery owner, who pointed us in the direction of a good cup of coffee to fortify us for our walk back to the Port Authority.

Para cenar, mis amigos y yo pedimos comida india y disfrutamos de la comida en su piso de Jackson Heights. La comida era realmente buena y lo mejor e todo- ¡cenamos en nuestros pijamas! Mañana tengo planeado visitar el Museo de Brooklyn y los Jardines Botánicos de Brooklyn, además de…más cosas. Es mi último día en la ciudad, así que ¡¡¡tendré que aprovechar!!!

For dinner, my friends and I ordered Indian take-out and enjoyed our food at their Jackson Heights apartment. The food was really good, and best of all, we could eat it in our pijamas! Tomorrow I plan on visiting the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and more...It´s my last day in the city, so I´ll have to make the most of my time!
