Restaurant Montana offered us magnificent quality in an historic area of Málaga

You can find Restaurant Montana in one of the neighborhoods with more tradition and character in Málaga: “La Victoria”. This restaurant is very well known in Malaga and we went there because our fiend had recommended it to us, saying that he had a great dining experience. Taking advantage of the fact that on Thursday you can enjoy your dinner with a stand-up comic routine, we thought that it would be fun to enjoy both the food and a few laughs.

After we went inside we immediately noticed the attention to detail and that the service was very professional. They have a restaurant, as well terrace for thesummer which they have designed as a lounge bar where you can have a drink between the palm trees andenjoy the great weather of Malaga. Because we visited in the winter, it was logical that although the weather was mild, we chose to eat inside where we could also enjoy the comedy monologue.

We were served by a nice and professional waiter who called Lolo (short for Manolo or Manuel). We had come with the idea that our friend had told us about, where they offered you a tasting-menu, explained the food and combined it with different wines. We did not know that you had to reserve this option before you went. Despite not booking it, the waiter, who was very attentive from the start, gave us the option of choosing the dishes that we liked most, and he made a special tasting-menu that he called the “Special Menu Lolo”.

Thanks to his recommendations, we started choosing a long list of dishes that sounded good to us and that we really wanted to try. The first dish, accompanied by a red wine from La Mancha, was a warm salad with bacon, caramelized apple and vinaigrette of mustard and honey. The next dish was a small piece of toast with cured cheese and anchovies. Up to this point, everything was excellent and we were just beginning.

At that moment it was time to change to a wine from La Rioja for the following dishes. Without any doubt the next one was the best dish, the scrambled eggs “Candido” style with garlic sauce, “secreto iberico” (a special cut of pork) and extra virgin olive oil was a true delicacy. For the last appetizer, they gave us 8 croquettes, half of them codfish and half ham. With this we had already eaten enough because each of these plates was the size of what you would get in any other restaurant to share with various friends. But they had one last dish for us. Along with a glass of white wine they served us a filet of monkfish, cooked in the oven with two sauces (one with garlic and extra virgin olive oiil and another with vinegar from Jerez.)

After all this amazing food, we didn´t have room for dessert, although they did give us a glass of special liquor on the house. We took sips of the herb flavored liquor as the comedy show started, which was a monologue by the great Jose Rekena, who will soon be seen on the television program El Club de la Comedia. With a style that was distinctly from Málaga, and lots of ease, he had us all laughing by the end of his act. At the end we had the opportunity to congratulate the chef, Juan, for his great meal.
