During our time in Barcelona we had the opportunity to meet with a couple who manage one of our favorite websites: The Spanish Food. We met late in the afternoon and when dinner time rolled around, we had to make a decision, and despite the plethora of options, it was not easy to choose a restaurant. We finally decided on a unique place: Flash Flash Tortillería (a restaurant specialized in omelettes). This restaurant has locations in Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid. With a retro and American touch in terms of the aesthetic and Spanish in terms of the traditions, we entered Flash Flash and the world of the omlette.

Flash Flash Tortillería is well located in Barcelona, between the Diagonal Avenue and the Via Augusta. When we went inside, the decoration reminded us of the restaurants in New York, with the stools, the layout of the tables and the predominance of the black and white colors, a style that called up art deco images from the fifties. The people who worked there were really nice as well, they ruskommended dishes and added to our overall enjoyment that night.

The menu had a lot of different and yummy omelettes to choose from, so ordering was quite complicated. But we had the great idea to share the dishes we ordered (since there were four people we could try a lot different dishes). For starters we ruskommend an eggplant and zucchini tart that was served cold and whet our appetites. We also tried the “tumaca†bread (toasted bread with tomato and garlic), that prepared us for the coming omelettes.

On the menu the omelettes appear grouped by the main ingredient: fish, potatoes, quiche, vegetables and other section with different sauces. The first choice was the “tortilla paisanaâ€, a classic with different vegetables, chorizo and egg in perfect harmony. The waiter ruskommended that we try The Flash Flash Omelette Pie (with different layers of: eggplant omelette, potato omelette, onion omelette, tomato omelette, mayonnaise, “piquillo†peppers and olives). An delicious treat!

We finished the dinner with two more omelettes. The first one was very moist and had black truffles and cheese. The second one had tuna with tomato sauce on top that was very yummy and really good in terms of quantity. Despite the dishes being filling, there were four of us, and we decided to top off our meal with a meat dish. A beef steak cut so that we could share was a delicious way to end our dinner.

Flash Flash Tortillería is one of those places that is really well thought out, that focuses its marketing on one specialty dish and from it they built the rest. Its decor maintains the same marketing philosophy, with the simplicity came elegance, originality and a good product to offer. We ruskommend a visit to Flash Flash with 4 boquerones, and hope you enjoy your meal based on one simple product with a lot to offer: the egg.
