Where to sleep in Namur (Belgium) : Hotel Les Tanneurs

The Hotel Les Tanneurs is a place downtown that’s full of charm

The Hotel Les Tanneurs is almost twenty minutes away from the Namur Station. After arriving at the station, our first goal was to find the hotel and leave the suitcases in the room. With the idea of getting our bearings a little bit, we decided to walk to the hotel, and with the help of a map we arrived without a problem. The street is a little bit hidden and solitary, but soon you will see that you are in the center. The area is calm and inside the hotel has a lot of charm.

In the past, the hotel was a villa of eleven houses which were reformed and grouped while maintaining the original spirit, and giving it a rural and pleasant aspect. After going in you will enjoy a relaxing environment which, along withthe nice and genuine service of the person who attended us, helped to make a positive first impression. While wewalked through the hotel, it reminded us of a rural home with a lot of wood in the decor. The hotel has a restaurant with a “refined and designer” gastronomy (L’Espièglerie)run by the chef Jean-François QUARREZ. On the first floor, you can also find another restaurant (Le Grill des Tanneurs) for eating more in the way of meats and local products. We did not have the opportunity to try either one.

The hotel has 32 rooms and they are all different. For that we are going to describe the one where we stayed: number 308. As a negative point we want to point the poor accessibility, in the hotel as well as in the rooms, because of the large number of stairs without access ramps. That being said, we were pleasantly surprised when we entered the room, for its rustic design, the space and the views of the Citadel.

The room had a huge living room with a comfortable, king size bed (the pillows might be a negative point, because they seemed like cushions and personally we do not like this kind, as well as not having any choice in the matter). The windows of the room, although small, were many and had beautiful views of the Citadel and streets close to the center. The thing that we likedbest in the room was the design of the bathroom, which was separated and with two levels. The first floor had the bath and the changing area, and the second one for the sink and toilet. The room seemed like an attic apartment with the wood and the roof tops across the way.

The breakfast (served from 7am to 10:30am), and included in the price, was a buffet with a variety of breads, pastries, cheeses, cold cuts, a machine to make fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee and a large variety of teas. I would like to ruskommend to try the jasmine green tea. A complete breakfast with everything well positioned. It is also important to note that the Wi-Fi is totally free and fast, because there are different routers divided by groups of rooms.

As we mentioned before, the rooms are all different, and for that reason the price ranges from 40€ to 215€.This variety and range of prices is a positive point. The room that we have described cost 125€ per night, and we had a very positive experience. Because of the location and style, the comfort of the room, the service, the breakfast and the free Internet (despite the pillows, which is personal taste, and the limited accessibility) we ruskommend the hotel with 5 boquerones.
