I am not even going to pretend to be the authority on where to get the best pizza in Rome. Apart from the fact that it took me until age 31 to set foot in the city, there are so many countless places to order a slice that it doesn´t even seem logical to choose a favorite. What I will tell you is that you can order up some DELICIOUS pizza (and more) at Baffetto2.

We arrived at Baffetto2 thanks to the ruskommendations of our friends Ana and Laura, great ruskofans of EBV too. As we wound our way through picturesque streets, I couldn´t help but feel like I was on the set of a movie. Between the cobblestones, vespas, and street market in the piazza, this was like a surreal and wonderful walk through a light hearted romantic comedy. I kept waiting for a bumbling but adorably handsome Italian man to round a corner. Despite all this daydreaming mixed with reality, Pedro led me (thanks to Google Maps and an Italian SIM card) to Bafetto2 where we were seated outdoors inside a sort of tent with large space heaters that stood alone to warm us up (even though the temperature wasn´t very cold that day).

The waiters were very friendly, and between our Spanish, English and Italian we were able to communicate fairly well. Pedro and I decided to start off with a carafe of the house red wine, and an appetizer of fresh mozzarella cheese with prosciutto ham thinly sliced over the top. As we waited for our food to arrive, we took in our surroundings. There were families, groups of friends, and a few couples all enjoying a late lunch on a Saturday. It was something so comforting and so special at the same time. Many times we are so busy and caught up in our everyday stresses that these simple moments get lost. But this was our trip to Rome. The trip I´d been waiting for since I moved to Spain in 2008. I was savoring every moment. And speaking of savoring, the appetizer was AMAZING. This simple plate reminded us once again that simple is better. No frills or special preparation needed: great cheese paired with flavorful ham and a delicious wine. Perfection!

For our main course we chose to try a pizza, especially since Baffetto2 boasts an authentic wood fired pizza oven and the crusts were served up paper thin and crispy. This was a treat not to be missed! We chose one that had tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, onion and sausage. The pizza arrived smelling heavenly and when we took a bite, a buttery, rich flavor invaded our mouths. This was better than any pizza I had tried: ever! Hands down, I was in heaven. Again, I will say that I am no expert. This was my one and only trip to Italy, but that being said. I enjoy pizza a lot….one of my favorite foods, probably…and I can vouch for the fact that this one was delicious.

When we finished our pizza we ordered tiramisu and coffee for dessert (I should also mention that this day happened to be my birthday). The desert was so good that I wound up stealing a good portion of it as Pedro was consulting a map. Oops! Although, it was my birthday…so I guess he forgives me.

Over all it was a great meal in a relaxed setting not far from the center of Rome. We ruskommend Baffetto2 with 5 boquerones for its delicious food, friendly waiters, and central location. When in Rome…go have pizza here!
