Cudillero. Walk through Cudillero, you can really see the fishing tradition

We got back in the car and continued our route stopping again in the fishing village of Cudillero. This town was even fuller of tourists. In fact, as we entered the main street you could see a huge sign that said “Cudillero in the past, in the present, and in the cinema.” It seems that the town was used in various movies. I can understand why this is the case.

Just like other towns in the area, this one is set into a big hill. We weren’t new to the “town on a hill” scenario and we decided to park on the highest part of the town and then walk down to the port. The main street was rampant with souvenirs shops with things from Asturias and post cards, but even so we were able to talk with a group of older people and we could imagine how things must have been before all the cameras and tourists arrived.

The charm of the town really lies in the narrow streets and houses painted in bright colors in contrast with others painted all in white. Then on the other side with the port is where you can see all the fishing boats. Also, there is a museum for not forgetting the life year ago. Close it, there is a monument called “The mine and the sea” that is a huge anchor covered in fishing nets. Minus that excess of terraces and touristy shops, the town of Cudillero is worth the trip because you can easily imagine what life must have been like on the Asturian coast in the past.
