Marina D’Or offers something for all everyone, but more importantly, it offers rest

When we were invited to experience Marina D’Or I have to admit we had some doubts, simply because we were not used to this type of vacation. After we thought about it a bit, we asked ourselves: Why not take advantage of the opportunity of living like a king for two days? We accepted the offer and decided to go in order to know exactly what Marina D’Or is all about. Since Abby was in New York, I traveled there with my brother. It reminded us of vacations we had taken together in the past as brothers.

Marina D’Or is a city for vacations. It not only has hotels and apartments with views of the sea, but also there are large spaces for amusement parks, shops, decorations in the streets, sports places, a congress palace and their very own gas station. It is a custom-built city with every detail carefully thought out. One of the first things I was interested in was seeing how it was constructed, their conservation and emergency plans. While I am a nature lover and advocate for maintaining the original landscape and architecture, I realize that there are many cities who have not gone this route.

Having said this though, the fact remained that we were looking forward to two relaxing days with not a thing to think about. We stayed at the Hotel Spa Marina D’Or, which has 5 stars. The service was excellent, not just with us, but with all the clients we talked to. The décor makes you feel you are in a palace. As we checked in, we were getting excited about our visit. They gave us a large, comfortable room, perfect for relaxing. There was a terrace where we could read and calmly look out on the Mediterranean Sea. On top of that, there was a Jacuzzi – perfect for relaxing before bed-time.

The main reason we were at this hotel and not in one of the others, was to enjoy the largest spa in Europe with salt water. With the stress of my trip to the United States, the visa and all the things that go with moving to a different country, I really needed to relax and what could be better than a spa like this one. They allowed us in the VIP area where there are water beds with environmental music (perfect for a nap!), chocolate and milk baths, private Jacuzzis (outside and inside), an aromatherapy room and another room with drinks and a coffee press.

The area of the spa where most of the people go, has a large variety of rooms to choose from (Roman baths, saunas, pools and Jacuzzis). While it could be overwhelming if you go when there are a lot of adults and kids, if you choose the right time, you could escape and relax without a problem. I should add that we went in September, which is the perfect month for this kind of tourism. We enjoyed the spa every single day – it’s worth it!

They have a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which we tried. For breakfast there were great quantities of baked goods, cakes, cold cuts, breads and juices (I missed some of them not being freshly squeezed). For lunch and dinner we could choose between different plates going from the healthiest ones to fried and fast food. The variety really surprised me – there was something for every diet and taste. I finally ended up mixing all kinds of food in my stomach. I should mention that the drinks are all included.

Apart from all the possibilities that the hotel can offer, we had a lot of activities outside in different buildings of the city. The first place we went was the Water Park which is open only during the morning hours. Despite not being very big, it has two slides and is well thought out for kids. We were there only one hour because almost all the attractions are for kids 12 and under. Anyway, we got the adrenalin going.

During the afternoon we went to see the Enchanted Garden. Despite being for kids, I must admit that I liked it and I think it is a very original idea. It is a room where the creatures and trees come to life and interact with the visitors. The creatures of the magic forest even put on a show. After that, we visited the Amusement Park which is designed for kids and adults. Here we really got the adrenalin going with the quads, the free fall, the roller-coaster and the climbing wall. With these activities we closed the day, but not without taking advantage of the buffet and the Jacuzzi.

Finally, we had the privilege of trying one of the massages from the Medical Center. One of the newest parts of Marina D’Or is the Medical Tourism. They want to offer the latest in treatments, diagnostics and electronic equipment. They showed us the different rooms of the hospital. It is not as equipped as a public hospital, but it’s perfect for rehabilitations, specific treatments and preventive health. We tried the Japanese massage and you can be sure it was a moment of total relaxation and detachment from the worries of the world. I still remember it!

As you can see Marina D’Or offers something for all everyone, but more importantly, it offers rest. The village of Oropesa del Mar is close by bus or car and is well worth a visit due to its paved streets and authenticity. We ruskommend Marina D’Or with 4 boquerones for being able to provide total relaxation and offer excellent service at the same time. Rusko agrees it is well worth a visit to enjoy “the city of vacations”
