Harriet Beecher Stowe – “Her words changed the world” Rusko visited the Harriet Beecher Stowe house in Hartford, Connecticut. Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of Uncle Tom´s Cabin, the most popular book in the 1800´s second only to The Holy Bible. Harriet Beecher Stowe was the daughter of a Calvinist minister and was a fervent abolishionist, counting among her friends Sojourner Truth. The house is located on the famous Nook Farm, which was a little corner of Hartford in the bend of a small river which has since been rerouted underground. Her neighbor was actually Mark Twain!
