The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia offers an amazing architecture

The City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia

On our last day in Valencia we visited the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia (Valencian: Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències). People told us that this visit was unforgettable, and as it was close to the hotel, we thought that it would be a good idea to walk around the area. This enormous campus, designed by architects Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela, is one of the most visited places in the city. However, when we visited it (on Sunday), apart from the Oceanographic, the rest of buildings didn´t seem to have much activity.

We didn´t have much time, so we did not enter any of the buildings and for that the reason we won’t go into detail about any of them, although there is a lot of information about each one. After a cloudy start, the sun finally came out leaving us to enjoy a great Sunday morning. This fact made the walk through the magical architecture of the buildings an ideal option. We started our walk around the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia at the Palace of the Arts Reina Sofia (Valencian: Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia), it is the Theater of Valencia and is dedicated to representations of theatrical arts and music.

Independent from the money that this area cost to build and the necessity of such a building, the architecture is amazing. We continued along the border of the man-made lake to pass by three buildings dedicated entirely to the sciences: The Museum of Sciences Principe Felipe (Valencian: El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe), the Umbracle and L’Hemisferic . The last two buildings, a little bit farther than the first ones, are the Agora and the  Oceanographic . We really wanted to enter in the last one, because a lot of people told us that it is worth a visit.

If, like us, you don’t have time to spend the full day going in the different buildings and enjoying the interiors; you can still enjoy the external architecture and a nice walk around the grounds. Apart from the buildings, the gardens, lakes and the bike-path offer an extra for visiting them in the Sunday morning.
